MA Election Updates (Brown wins!)
Let the games begin!
The interpolitical infighting has already begun–call it the “blame game”.
A Coakley advisor:
“There’s more to the story than [Coakley’s poor campaign]. If Martha is guilty of taking the race for granted, so is the White House, and the DNC.”
From the Whitehouse:
“It’s a little mind-boggling to see political consultants spin the election before the election is even over. There’s only one reason to do that.”
An undisclosed Democratic party official:
“The candidate in this race and the campaign have been involved in the worst case of political malpractice in memory and they aren’t going to be able to spin themselves out of this with a memo full of lies.”
Turnout: At this point reports are that turnout is as high as 50%, despite reported weather issues.
A GOTV effort to get out the Democrat vote seems to be falling apart:
[[Democratic] outreach workers in and around Boston have been stunned by the number of Democrats and Obama supporters who are waving them off, saying they’ll vote for Scott Brown.]
On exit polls:
Word is out that there will be no exit polls for this election–it might make for a long night. This being said, Scott Rassmussen has pledged to pay for his own exit polls and we will likely be getting some of these figures later on; Stay posted.
Republican pollster Frank Luntz regularly forms panels equally divided between Democrat and Republican voters, but in this case he is having a hard time getting pro-Coakley Democrats to join up. This despite the fact that these voters are paid well for a very short question and answer session. Are Coakley voters ashamed to be seen on TV?
File under “Oops”:
The Coakley campaign accidentally released a comment on their website, but ignoring the fact that voting had yet to start and this was posted yesterday:
“We’ve recieved several independent and disturbing reports of voters accross the state being handed ballots that are already marked in favor of Scott Brown. This is obviously a serious violation, and our legal team is taking immediate steps to protect the integrity of this election.” (there is more, and you can view the original page, quickly removed after twitter got buzzing, on http://www.hotair.com.)
This error was not enough for the Coakley campaign to disregard the Dem rulebook and recently declare Brown is cheating:
(6:00 PM) A late press conference by Coakley today claims election tampering. They claim five people stepped forward claiming to have pre-marked ballots for Scott Brown at the polls.
The rulebook via a memo sent out by the failed Kerry campaign:
* Issue a press release
i. Reviewing Republican tactic used in the past in your area or state
ii. Quoting party/minority/civil rights leadership as denouncing tactics that discourage people from voting
* Prime minority leadership to discuss the issue in the media; provide talking points
* Place stories in which minority leadership expresses concern about the threat of intimidation tactics
* Warn local newspapers not to accept advertising that is not properly disclaimed or that contains false warnings about voting requirements and/or about what will happen at the polls” (Kerry-Edwards 2004, “Colorado Election Day Manual: A Detailed Guide To Voting In Colorado,” 11/04)
(6:34 PM) One of our friends at MSBC, Chris Mathiews, forgot the name “Scott Brown”. lol
(7:30 PM) Scott Brown has taken the town of Ashland, 54-45.
Fox boston reports that with 10% of the polls in, Brown still leads by 7.
(7:45 PM) Fox reports that with 25% of the vote in, Brown still leads 53-47
Cautious optimism mode: ENGAGED!
(8:00 PM) Fox now has Brown ahead by 53-46 with 53% of precincts reporting in.
(8:20 PM) Coakley concedes! The Associated Press has also called it for Brown.
This is huge. The efforts of the tea party have made a mark in a state where this movement started so long ago. We are seeing Republicans, Independents, Libertarians, and Democrats decide that what is happening in Washington is not what people voted for.
Thank you, my Patriot friends, it was an eventful night. But this is just one battle of many to follow. Join us and we can return America to a time when we were a “Shining City on the Hill” and our children will be able to enjoy the light of Freedom.
Freedom is stronger than Hatred, and tonight Freedom won.
Cautious optimism mode: disengaged
